Dose of Affirmation

“People are not the most important asset. The right people are.” – Jim Collins

It is true, much of what successful business relies on is not just people, but the right people. A team of individuals who incur more costs than rewards for your company could be toxic to your business and to your employees.

Consider this analogy of a tug-of-war competition. If there is a competitor or multiple competitors who are impeding on the teams performance by lack of strength, energy, or morale, the outcome may not be favorable.

It is easy to predict one of the outcomes of the tug-of-war, which certainly isn’t geared towards winning. On the flipside, a desirable outcome of winning may result, but the team morale and energy could be severely affected due to the lack of group unity.

Applying this analogy to the quote, one can see how not just anyone is the best fit for the job. In addition, one can see how one’s performance effects not just themselves, but the rest of the team and the business. Would you rather have a stagnant and poor worker or a diligent and dedicated one? The answer seems obvious.

Furthermore, it is vital that businesses and employers are mindful of this, as it is directly correlated to the company and employees success. Remember this…Not just anyone for the job, but the right one is key.
